Natural Dye Workshop - a Mindful Outdoor Experience by ChuckWalks
Create a one-of-a-kind art print using natural dyes, on natural fabric, to take home! Join us for a Natural Dye Workshop offered by Lauren Schwind of Subnormal Child on Saturday, September20, 2025, in a natural residential setting among preserved farmland in New Ringgold PA.

ChuckWalks presents a special workshop where we will be guided through the making of own
personal natural dye art print on a bandana or hanky (included) of all natural silk or cotton using the wisdom of local flora and fauna along with everyday items and scraps you find in the kitchen. Lauren will not just focus on the practical process of dying with plants but she will share with us the practices of co-creating with nature, harvesting with the seasons, and creating and keeping an overall deeper connection to the land we all walk on.
You will also learn:
- How to forage for your own natural dye materials.
- Ethical practices to ensure the protection of natural habitats.
- Natural dye practices in history.
- Natural dying and safety tips for the workshop and creating your own creative natural dyes at home.
While we wait for our dyed pieces to set, we will spend time together pausing & connecting with Nature and practicing proven ways to settle in, get centered & grounded, and help alleviate some of our stresses and anxieties by learning to become more present. More mindful magic into the rituals of the wheel of the Year as it again turns to the Autumn Equinox (Mabon/Alban Elfed) marking the balance of day and night before the darkness overtakes the light. It is also the time of the
second harvest, usually of the fruit which has stayed on the trees and plants that have ripened under the summer sun.
We will end with (Please give input here!) where we will reconnect and share our experiences with each other.
All of the festivities will be outside (rain date? Preparations? Indoors? I have a summer kitchen room for the cooking if its smelly. (Give me some ideal feedback and I will add!)

**Not sure how this fits in, maybe we need to be more descriptive of the workshop – standing
sitting, bending etc?**
This is a 3-hour event, so we don't have to rush. We will be sitting and sharing about the
meaning behind the Autumn Equinox. Not much walking for this event. We will be mostly
focused on the field and around the outdoor fireplace.
It is too far out to be confident of the weather forecast, so please dress comfortably and for
typical late September afternoon weather.
** Please bring:
* a camp style chair for around the circle
Restrooms WILL BE available, but it is our hosts personal home bathroom. Please plan accordingly.
REMEMBER: This is a rain or shine event (only canceled if dangerous weather is expected), so please dress appropriately and in layers so you are comfortable for this 3-hour outdoor adventure where we will be standing or bending over for short periods of time. If rain or cold is expected, please wear waterproof or other appropriate clothing as
this event is ENTIRELY OUTDOORS.
This is a SPECIAL TICKETED EVENT! Tickets cost $45 and include a choice of fabric to dye as well as an opportunity to purchase a second hand item to dye (sliding scale options for different items and only limited qualities available.)
REFUNDS will only be provided in extreme cases. A refund will NOT be provided should you
decide not to attend because of another conflict or disliking the weather, so choose wisely. If
